July 21st
Some new roads were on the agenda for today. Riders assembled in Westbank and headed up the Connector to Merritt and westwards to the provincial Spius Creek Fish Hatchery. Fishery employee Doug gave us a personal and informative tour of the hatchery and explained the work and achievements accomplished. We were invited back for the third week in August when they do the "spawning" to collect fish eggs in order to raise Chinook and Coho stocks for various rivers in the interior.
Lunch was enjoyed at Brambles Bakery & Café on Quilchena Avenue in Merritt followed by a ride along Coldwater Road to Brookmere on the abandoned KVR railway then returning home on the Coquihalla Highway and Connector back to our respective home base(s). Beautiful weather and great scenery covering over 350 KM.

August 18th
The weather forecast was hot so riders took advantage of the cooler temperatures at the higher elevations. Planned route took riders along the Connector, Highway 97C, to Merritt for muster 1 at the Elkhorn rest stop and then continued west of Merritt to the Spius Creek Fish Hatchery after a circuitous route but finally arriving at our destination. Unfortunately, actual viewing scientists harvesting and fertilizing salmon eggs was not possible but a toured explanation of the process was given. Route then continued east along Highway 8 back to Merritt for lunch at Brambles Bakery & Café (2151 Quilchena Ave) and later a fuel stop at the Super Save gas station. Return route headed southwards on Coldwater Road to the Kingsvale junction and return on the Coquihalla Highway and the Connector back home with final muster at the Penask Summit on Highway 97C. Another good ride.
